"Sincerely Yours" by Sweet Sensation with Romeo J.D.

Sophomore year of high school should have a big red X over it - as if scrawled by an angry teacher on a test you failed. But which sophomore year? My school didn't count it the first time, but the first was actually the worse of the two - if you don't count the particularly outrageous butchery at the end of the second.

During the second attempt - months before the disastrous events that closed out the year - the art teacher gave us an unusual assignment. This project dealt with a famous (?) artist. We had to write what appeared to be a series of letters between the artist's relatives.

I figured my grade was already predetermined, so I had no reason to even take the assignment seriously. I looked to Sweet Sensation's now-lost hit for guidance.

This record includes a rap by Romeo J.D. that seems to espouse a Billy Ray Cyrus-like conspiracy theory about missing mail. This rap in particular influenced how I did this assignment.

At the end of one of the letters between the artist's relatives that made up the assignment, I wrote, "If ever this letter should reach your door, you'll find it signed sincerely yours."

Needless to say, that got the red X treatment. You can almost hear the record's freestyle percussion and background vocals as the teacher's red pen works its magic!

"Sincerely Yours" isn't the only lost hit associated with this assignment. There was another that charted a bit higher that also left its imprint on that project - much to the chagrin of an angry high school art instructor. We'll get to it very soon.
