"Concealed weapons! Concealed weapons! They ought to be against the law!"

I had forgotten about this action-packed track for years, until back in September when I went on my trip to Nashville.

When we started heading home, we drove past several yellow traffic signs that said "CONCEALED DRIVEWAY." When we saw these, we suddenly started singing, "Concealed driveway! Concealed driveway! It ought to be against the law!" We mimicked the strums and drumbeats from the J. Geils Band's song.

This lost hit came out right after the band's former lead singer Peter Wolf left to embark on a solo career and become the patron saint of lost hits. Some think the song is sort of juvenile, but in my day, I thought it was hilarious. When the record failed to reach the top 40, I was actually angry. I know there was a lot of competition in 1984, but it should have at least ranked ahead of "What About Me", the ridiculous collaboration by Kenny Rogers, Kim Carnes, and James Ingram. I have nothing against Kenny, Kim, and James on their own, but when they got together, it was trouble on an unprecedented scale.

Apparently, however, even the J. Geils Band thinks "Concealed Weapons" is a little bit juvenile, as I couldn't find the song or video on the band's YouTube channel.
